In 2002, Union EMS took delivery of a new (to us) ambulance and put it into service
to the community as Medic 8, our first due unit for medical calls. This unit
came to us from the Newark New Jersey
Fire Department. While still in Newark, Medic 8 responded to the Twin Towers site as part of a
massive mutual aid response by agencies surrounding the New York City metropolitan
area to assist the New York City Fire Department in response to the September 11th
attack.
The flag shown at the right was proudly flying on Medic 8 while at the
Twin Towers site and was donated to Union Emergency Services at the time that
members of our department traveled back to Newark to pick up Medic 8 and drive
it back to Oregon. The September 11th flag no longer flies on Medic 8, but is now mounted proudly
at the fire department as a reminder of the sacrifice many brave firefighters
made that day.
